MOM’S CRUISE STOLE

I kept making stupid mistakes, the same stupid mistakes, on Mom’s stole. So, out of necessity, I am taking a break from it for atleast a couple of days. That way I can go back to it with fresher eyes.

MOLL FLANDERS

I have decided what my KTC’s “Moll Flanders” project will be. Naturally it’s lace, and it’s something I had planned on making anyway. I am using the violet Zephyr 50/50% wool/silk lace weight and making the “Adamas Shawl” from Knit Picks dot com.

Purple was once considered the color of wealth and power because of the fact that dyes were rare and therefore extremely expencive. It has long been considered the color of the “akasa” or dream/spirit rhealms, of spirituality, of royalty, and the like. (Besides it’s my favorite color!)
Moll longed for wealth and the power and security that it brings. Due to her onetime proffession, and the fact that she became a lady, she deserves lace.

From the pattern sheet for the shawl: ” ‘Adamas’ is Greek meaning indomitable or untamable. This name was given to diamonds because of their ability to scratch anything, while not being scratched themselves…” if this doesn’t discribe Moll Flanders, well then nothing else does!

So there it is, my “Moll Flanders” KTC project and the reasons why.

Thing #1

Well today we drove over to the next town to the Super Walmart(SW). We returned the ink cartridge refill kit that dh had gotten me because it won’t work with my printer’s cartridges. (Darnit!!) We did, however, go ahead and get a refill cartridge for the color ink for the printer. (Is a good thing, as it’s nearly completely out!) Also, dh got me a game for my computer! What game you ask? Well none other than “CSI: Dark Motives”

Thing #2

We found out at the SW that my dad had gone home early felling sick. So when we left we went out to mom and dad’s to see how dad was. His truck was in the driveway, but he didn’t answer the door. DH said he heard someone russling around inside, but he was hearing things! On the way home dh asked me, “wanna stop by the LYS?” Why yes, I fully resisted saying ‘duh, dumb question’. I got the Vogue Knitting magazine that I intended to get when I got the last magazine. I also got two balls of cotton yarn to knit washcloths with. The yarn was in one of the sale baskettes for just $2 each.

Yarn Darn, Thing #3

Guess what came in the mail today? Go ahead, guess……..I’ll wait……..okay. My “Tissue Tunnic” pattern came and my Violet Zephyr wool/silk that’s what!
Last night I went ahead and ordered two more hanks of lace wool from HandpaintedYarn dot com. I ordered “Jacento” and “orchid”, basically two differant “purpley” colors. That should be here by this time next week at the latest.

Dork Pork, Thing #4

Before leaving out this morning, I put the pork tenderloin (that had been maringating in a zipper baggie in the fridge) into the crockpot and started it cooking. It smelled sooooooooo yummy when I opened the door!

Back Jack, Thing #5

Someone asked what it was I was chewing on in the picture I posted yesturday. I know it looks obscene in the picture, but I assure you that it is purely inocent. It’s an old (new at the time, remember this is atleast 42 yrs ago!) wooden rattle. See, y’all thought I was a toddler pervert didn’t you? LOL!

Well today is my birthday, or rather it’s the 15th anniversury of my 29th birthday! The day was okay. Some stuff happened this morning that’s too personal for a public blog, so I won’t go into it. But for the most part it was a good day.

Ah, this picture. Starting from center front and going clockwise: my Uncle James, ME (wasn’t I an adorable little toddler? Oh I was too!), my dad, and then my grandma. How did I get this picture? I stole it from my mom over 13 years ago! (Yes, she knows that I have it.)

Still no yarn in the mail, well not today anyway. Hopefully it will start to arrive in tomorrow’s mail. I still have $17 left on my debit card, so I am seriously considering buying some more yarn while I can.

I have ordered some more yarn. I ordered another Zephyr Wool/Silk Lace Weight, this time in Violet. I thought I could do something just for me or maybe my grandma with this. I also went ahead and ordered some “Paint Your Own” sock wool to do NYC Brat’s ankle tube socks (more on why later), and I ordered a second ball for gp. I ordered another “Paint Your Own” lace wool , again for gp.

I am still awaiting the arrival of my latest swap package. I haven’t a clue as to what is in there, but am hoping that it’s lace/sock yarn, and/or anything “Paint Your Own”.

Okay to review, here’s the yarns I am waiting for: (1) Swap package of unknown content; (2) 4 hanks of Alpaca Cloud, for my Tissue Tunic KAL; (3) 1 pattern for the Tissue Tunic; (4) 1 ball of Zephyr wool/silk lace weight; (5) 2 hanks of PYO fingering weight yarn, and 1 hank of PYO lace weight.

To review, here’s what’s currently OTK: (1) “Hanging Garden” yellow stole, aka mom’s cruise stole; (2) “Ella” V-shaped shawl in Ice Blue zephyr wool/silk; (3) mom’d black/silver metalic December birthday stole, now on long-term hold.

For review, here’s what’s inline to be made: (1) NYC Brat’s PYO ankle tube socks; (2) Tissue Tunic, for me; (3) “Adamas Shawl, for me; and (4) something purple/violet for my grandma.

Well the weather is rather questionable near here, but so far the storms aren’t here (yet). Since they move this way, or in this general direction, I had better get offline. Besides, I need to put in some time on mom’s cruise stole if I want to get it done by a week from now.

Here’s a picture of my progress on my mom’s stole. I am about halfway threw the fourth repeat of the pattern, only 9.5 more repeats to go. I was going to take it and show it to her yesturday, but was afraid that I might drop stitches so I left it at home. I think that she’ll like it alot.

I, at one point, had wanted to have it done by yesturday. Well last week I got hit with a realy bad attack of allergies and didn’t get alot done on the stole. During that I decided to not rush the stole. I make too many mistakes in trying to rush my first major lace project, so slower and steady is the way to go for me.

On another note. By the picture above you can tell that I figured out how to get pictures from the new camera onto blogger. Originally I had been trying to publish them at such a high resolution that blogger wouldn’t take them. I just take them at lower resolution and badda bing, they load!

I have also figured out to get music downloaded onto the memory card and play it on the camera. Oh, didn’t I mention that my new camera also will play MP3’s that are saved onto the memory card? Well it does! I still have some learning to do to increase the quality, but I have the basics down.

Well I have got shower and get going on running a couple of errands. I am going to take the new camera with me and snap some pics so that I can play with the camera and see what all I can do.

DH not only got me the new computer, he gave me the money to get the digital camera that I wanted and the printer/scanner/copier that I wanted!

Well tuesday was a great day. It was my “girls day out” for my birthday, with my mom! First we stopped by Super Walmart to get the digital camera. Then, dummy me, realized that the built-in battery didn’t come charged! So mom bought a disposible camera.

We then went out to the local Indian Casino. I got my birthday bucks first thing off the batt. Then, since I hadn’t eaten breakfast, we decided to eat lunch. We had KC Strip steaks, steak fries, and a little salad. I hadn’t had a good steak in a long time, so I wolfed mine down rather quickly! (Mom sent her leftovers home with me, I just finished eating it!!)

Mom played her machines, I went my way and played mine. I’ll save you the ups and downs of my slots, but I got $20 free bday bucks to start with and left with $12. Now before anyone tries in vain to declair a loss of $8, I want to point something out…..I PLAYED WITH GIFT MONEY FROM THE CASINO AND NEVER EVER TOUCHED MY OWN CASH! My mother, on the other hand, won enough to pay for the day’s events!

We had a little more than an hour to kill, so went downtown. We checked out this resale clothing place, which didn’t carry the sorts of things I’d wear. Mom, however, found a few things for herself.
We then checked out this great store called “Gormet” (sp?). It was great! They carried a few specialty coffees, and I got a half pound of the one that smelled best to me. They also carry some specialty teas, some quality spices, nick-knacks, and all sorts of great and wonderful stuff. We decided next time we do something like this, we’re gonna skip the clothing place and spend more time here!

We then went to the candy place and got some specialty candies: mom got sugar-free for her, some for me, and some for the beautician. (Ofcourse I mistakenly handed her my candy to give the beautician and got the beauticians, but it’s still good!) Mom also got me a frozen coffee drink, it was yummy!

We then made it to the beauty shop. Mom paid for me to get my hair cut and a perm!

By this time it was getting late. We stopped by the Super Walmart and picked up the printer combo, and I did grocery shopping for food for my family.

Well more details later today after I have had some sleep.

Here is my yarn choices for the Tissue Tunic. It’s Knitpicks dot com ’s Alpaca Cloud yarn in Peppermint and Mist. Just thought I’d let y’all know what my decision was.

Well guess what? Our tax refund finally came in today! DH purchased a pickup truck from a coworker, so we got to get it registered and insurance transfered.

But guess? DH got me my new computer! Yup, I am using it right now, and gosh it is such a dream by comparison. But that isn’t all, oh no. He gave me the money to get the scanner/copier/printer I want, the digital camera (and a memory card for it), and some spending money for tomorrow! He can be a cremudgeon, but he’s a softy at heart.

Tomorrow my mom is picking me up for my bday outing since she works friday. One thing we will do is go to the Indian Casino so I can collect my bday bucks ($20 cash), then play a little nickle slots. Then we will do lunch out somewhere. She also has some sort of surprise in store for me, she said it was something that I had never done before! I will see about having her take me by the Super Walmart so that I can get the digital camera and memory card so I can take pictures of the day. So I’ll post more tomorrow.

I know I owe y’all an update. But I have been hit with an allergy attack, been unable to clear the congestion from sinuses, and am currantly fighting the congestion from settling into my chest/bronchial tubes. By the time I take care of email, online business, I do good to get in some knitting. If I am up to it, I will give a better update tomorrow.
